A few words about us
The college admissions process is competitive. The essay is one of the most important facets of the application process and can make the difference between an acceptance or rejection letter. However, most students feel intimidated when it comes to writing, especially the personal writing necessary in successful application essays. The Writing Shop’s curriculum moves students beyond this sense of intimidation, builds confidence in their abilities as writers, and allows their individuality and best qualities to shine through.
When a student finds their writing voice, the authenticity of an essay becomes palpable and admissions officers feel they’ve been given a glimpse of a real person, not a number or a label on a folder. The student’s ability to share the vision of who they are with the admissions officer is of the utmost importance and sets their college application essay apart from others. At The Writing Shop, students will learn how to build essays that are unique, engaging, and connect with the reader. The goal is two-fold: students will not only learn to craft dynamically written college application essays, but also gain access to, and an understanding of, the writing skills and approaches most often found in the college writing class.
At The Writing Shop, students will create college application essays that best exemplify who they are as individuals, as well as their abilities as writers. Coaching at The Writing Shop will result in effective college application essays that reflect the student’s ability to develop an authentic writing voice, convey a thesis, and to edit effectively. These skills are essential when it comes to crafting a unique and meaningful essay. This is not easy to do in approximately 500 words, but it is imperative.
Empowerment comes with the knowledge of how to reach a goal, and this knowledge will be called upon constantly once students begin their collegiate experience. The Writing Shop equips students with this knowledge and becomes the first stop on their journey to success.
